Senior Justice Sector Advisor  - Focus area: Survey Research

HiiL, a social enterprise that works to enhance access to justice through innovation is looking for a Justice Needs Expert for the Justice Research and Development team. This team works on data and knowhow on how people experience and resolve justice problems. HiiL operates internationally, with a focus on African countries, the MENA region and the Netherlands.

As a Senior Justice Sector Advisor you will conduct socio-legal research of people’s justice needs  and will provide policy and practice-relevant recommendations to stakeholders. You will be part of a team which designs, implements, analyses and presents large scale quantitative and qualitative studies in the countries where HiiL works. Our areas of work are access to justice, justice innovation and justice transformation. . Our team is looking for an expert who preferably next to fluent in English is also a native or fluent French speaker.

In this position:

  • You are responsible for the design of qualitative and quantitative studies, the organisation of data collection, data analysis, data visualisation and the presentation of policy and practice-relevant recommendations to global and national stakeholders.
  • You learn and apply HiiL processes and methods, leading to results that are relevant and actionable for stakeholders in the justice sectors.
  • You contribute to plans and strategies for evidence-based and people-centred justice services in the countries where HiiL works (including countries in Africa, the MENA region and the Netherlands).
  • You combine your research and advising skills to make data and knowledge work and to improve the way justice problems are prevented or resolved.
  • You ensure a user friendly presentation of data in dialogues with stakeholders and through HiiL's communication channels, enabling stakeholders to act on the basis of data and knowhow.

Our new colleague:

  • Has 5-10 years of relevant work experience in a similar position, preferably in an international, non-profit environment.
  • Has profound experience with design, analysis and implementation of survey research.
  • Is willing to accumulate knowledge about justice needs and how justice problems are resolved by people interacting with justice sector institutions.
  • Has preferably 3 years of experience in working in a role as a researcher or consultant in the justice sector.
  • Has understanding of survey research and understanding of qualitative research - in-depth interviews, focus group interviews, case studies etc.
  • Has a result-oriented, strategic/analytical focus, is socially strong and adaptable.
  • Has a problem-solving attitude.
  • Has professional proficiency in English and French; verbally and written. Knowledge of Dutch or Arabic is an extra asset.
  • Has profound knowledge with statistical and data analysis packages such as Stata, SPSS, SAS and similar. Experience with Stata and the Stata scripting language is an advantage.
  • Is familiar with business analytics packages such as Microsoft PowerBI, Tableau or Qlikview.
  • Has experience in and/or strong interest in working in an international environment.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills, is proactive and hands-on.
  • Is able to work under time pressure.

What else:

  • Starting date: June 1, 2020 
  • We offer a full time or part time position (24/40 hours) for an initial period of 12 months with the aim of building a long-term work relationship.
  • Based: The Hague / The Netherlands (Under certain conditions working remotely is optional)
  • Holding EU-citizenship or NL working permit.
  • A monthly salary for a full-time working week between €4.500,- / €5.700,- based on relevant experience.
